About Andean Lodges: Arriving in Cusco and our acclimatization programs
Andean Lodges, a full-service tour outfitter based in Cusco, Peru, offers you the very best trekking experiences in the Andes.
Together with our local native Quechua partners, we operate first-rate trekking programs and four wonderful mountain ecolodges in the spectacular Mt. Ausangate region of Peru’s Andes.
As experienced professionals, we are committed to ensuring our guests safety and comfort along every step of their Andean journey.
This includes your arrival in Cusco and the first few days of acclimatizing to altitudes at above 10,000 ft.
We’re very conscious of the discomfort that altitude sickness (soroche in Quechua) can cause, and thus we recommend taking some days to acclimatize while exploring the fascinating city of Cusco, and the nearby Sacred Valley of the Incas- essential destinations for all travelers to Cusco, before you go on to trek at Mt. Ausangate’s higher altitudes.
Our Acclimatization programs
For that purpose, we’ve designed acclimatization programs that give you time to get accustomed and explore the many natural features and cultural highlights of the ancient capital of the Incas and the beautiful Sacred Valley, the historic breadbasket of the Inca Empire.
Our acclimatization programs are adaptable to your wishes and needs. They can last as many days as you choose, but normally guests take three or four days before joining their Ausangate trek.
You’ll enjoy short half-day and one-day hikes to some of the best archeological sites and overlooks in Cusco and the surrounding area, such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Mt. Pachatusan and the Inca site of Tipon.
As you pace yourself, it will allow your body to gradually adapt to lower oxygen levels at this altitude, and to maintain your physical strength as you enjoy amazing views and restful nights.
In the evenings, you can enjoy the diverse, delectable cuisine and exciting night life that Cusco has to offer. You’ll sleep in comfort at one or more of the many excellent hotels and lodges in Cusco city and the Sacred Valley.
The Sacred Valley provides you with incredible opportunities for adventure sports, including hiking, mountain biking, rafting, and four-wheeling.
Leisurely visits take you to some of the most important Inca and pre-Inca archeological sites in Peru, native handcrafts markets and much more.
The views are breathtaking, and the photo opportunities are endless. There’s so much to do and enjoy in Cusco!
